The brief
A local theatre company needed a new website to match their rebranding and to showcase their productions. They wanted the site to be a welcoming place for users, encouraging them to interact with the content. Users should get excited about the shows, and spread the word about them. Specific requests included:
- Revamp blog to reinstate full blogging capability (multiple authors, mobile posting, posting of media, sharing to social media
- More prominent display of recent blog posts
- Updated show pages/portals that accommodate photo albums and videos, allows them to be shared to social media, and displays revolving testimonials or quotes.
Our approach
Following the initial migration of the original site to a new host, some research was done into best-in-class theatre company and performing arts websites to identify key qualities. The client had a clear vision for the style they wanted to it was a matter of customization which included theme and plugin research and selection to provide desired functionality. The website design selected was clean and modern to set the company apart from the standard fare available in local theatre, conveying professionalism and creativity.
Functionally, the site was updated to facilitate sharing of behind-the-scenes such as photographs and status updates from the team members. Significant design customization was required, as well as custom post type configuration and post format layouts. Ongoing maintenance included consultation, backup, updates, and minor fixes/changes.
